If the strain is too much, your Achilles Tendon might get inflammed and thus the term Achilles Tendonitis. So yeah, basically, Achilles Tendonitis is the inflammation of your Achilles Tendon. So what are the causes?
Causes Of Achilles Tendonitis
There are a lot of different causes for Achilles Tendonitis. However, the most common causes are overtraining, weak calf and feet muscles, improper positioning of your shoe cleats and/or improper bike fit. How To Deal With Achilles Tendonitis
If you start to feel that pain in the Achilles Tendon area, then you need to back off your bike rides. You can put ice packs on the affected are to calm down the inflammation. You can also take an anti-inflammatory medication such as Ibuprofen.
Keep in mind that you anti-inflammatory medications only work if it stays in your body for a couple of days. Taking it once will not help alleviate the pain. Also, it’s better to prevent Achilles Tendonitis from happening in the first place, and here’s what you can do.
Make sure that your bicycle is a good fit for you. Also, make sure that your shoe cleats are properly positioned. Visit an experienced bike store to get help in these areas if you need to. Lastly, don’t push yourself too hard. If you start to feel pain in the back of your leg, slow down a bit and let your body recuperate.
